How does a paperless waiting room work? Dr. med. Arash Zarkesh is an ophthalmologist and head of the ophthalmology practices in Gevelsberg and Ennepetal. He is known not only for his expertise in eye surgery but also for his commitment to offering modern, patient-centred treatment methods. His practices stand out for comprehensive preventive examinations and the treatment of various eye diseases, with a particular focus on using modern technologies. We met Dr. Zarkesh for an interview.
Many software solutions cannot be adapted sufficiently to a practice’s individual processes. For my work, I wanted a flexible solution that I can use in many ways. With medudoc, I found a provider that exceeded my expectations.

Interview with Dr. Zarkesh
Can you briefly describe how you integrated the digital solution into your practice processes?
Zarkesh: We made the digital patient education available to our patients via a link and a QR code. Patients usually watch this video at home before they come to the consent discussion.
How has introducing the digital solution in your ophthalmology practice affected the efficiency of your processes?
Zarkesh: Because patients have already seen the patient education video, the physician’s consent discussion in the consulting room is considerably shorter. Importing the patient education into the patient record eliminates further steps such as scanning and storage.
Which specific requirements or challenges in your practice led you to choose medudoc and Simpleprax rather than other providers?
Zarkesh: A high number of operations and, with it, frequent redundant, lengthy consent discussions. Other providers offer no way to integrate your own video or for patients to watch the video at home beforehand.
How have your patients responded to the introduction and use of the digital solution? What feedback have you received?
Zarkesh: The vast majority of patients are very satisfied and prefer the video-based patient education. Occasionally there are patients who are afraid to inform themselves. But they do not want to read the paper-based patient information either; they only want to sign.
How have your staff taken to using the digital solution?
Zarkesh: After a familiarisation period of a few weeks, our staff have accepted the software well and use it.
What future developments or potential can you envisage with this solution?
Zarkesh: Integrating cost estimates for services requiring co-payment in connection with operations would be very helpful.
