Patient education before therapy, understood calmly

Before chemotherapy, immunotherapy or stem cell transplantation, there is a lot to understand, often in a distressing situation. With medudoc, patients prepare at home, together with family members if they wish. The consent discussion starts informed and remains the core of patient education.

Video player in the medudoc patient portal with the patient education video on chemotherapy, subtitles, language selection, chapters and the option to mark a question for the consent discussion.

Calmly at home

Distressing patient education needs time and support

Before cancer therapy, patients receive a great deal of information at once. medudoc moves preparation to the patient's home, at their own pace. Those who wish can watch the patient education video and read the consent sheet together with family members.

  • At home
  • With family members
  • In 23 languages
  • Watch several times, discuss together

The patient education video and consent sheet are available in the patient portal – no app, no new password. Patients view them as often as needed, also with family members.

  • Subtitles and reading version

The patient education video is deliberately written in plain language, with spoken text, optional subtitles and a reading version. Font size and contrast can be adjusted in the portal.

  • Understand in their own language

medudoc provides patient education content in 23 languages. The consent sheet is bilingual, with the German original on the left and the translation on the right.

  • The discussion remains the core

Record questions instead of forgetting them

Patients mark sections and note questions. These questions appear in the consent discussion so that nothing gets lost.

Before chemotherapy

How patient education works before the first dose

Chemotherapy illustrates the process with medudoc. Before immunotherapy, stem cell transplantation or bone marrow aspiration, it works the same way, with the respective consent sheet.

  1. 1. Invitation

Patients start via QR code on the leaflet, a link on the hospital website or with the appointment confirmation.

  2. 2. Digital medical history

Pre-existing conditions, medication by photographing the package or medication plan, and existing findings by upload – in advance at home.

  3. 3. Review in the HCP Dashboard

Physicians see the overall picture for each case. medudoc flags notable information; the assessment remains with the physician.

  4. 4. Patient education video and consent sheet

The sheet adapts to the planned therapy, for example to cancer type, goal, cycles, route of administration and venous access.

  5. 5. Consent discussion

On site or by telemedicine, by phone or video call in the browser. Physicians add annotations to the sheet.

  6. 6. Electronic signature

In the browser or on a signature pad, at the signature level your hospital specifies.

The result is one PDF/A with the consent sheet, consent trail and medical history – archived audit-proof and transferred to the HIS.

On site or by telemedicine

The consent discussion where it fits

The physician decides, depending on the treatment and risk profile, whether a telemedical consent discussion is sufficient. Both paths start with the same preparation at home.

  • On site

In the outpatient clinic, well prepared

For complex therapies, pre-existing conditions or when an examination is needed.

    1. 1

Record medical history and findings at home

    2. 2

Notable information flagged in the HCP Dashboard

    3. 3

Watch the patient education video and read the consent sheet in advance

    4. Discussion and examination in the outpatient clinicDiscussion

    5. 5

Sign electronically on a tablet or signature pad

The discussion starts with the patient's questions.

  • Telemedical

Consent discussion by phone or video

When the physician considers a telemedical consent discussion sufficient.

    1. 1

Record medical history and findings at home

    2. 2

Review and approve the case in the HCP Dashboard

    3. 3

Watch the patient education video and read the consent sheet at home

    4. Consent discussion by phone or videoDiscussion

    5. 5

      Sign electronically in the browser

No additional trip to the hospital for the discussion.

Evidence for every therapy

The consent trail documents who viewed which content when, which question was asked and when the sheet was signed. Consent or documented refusal is possible, also by legal representatives.
