Well prepared, from bronchoscopy to lobectomy
The spectrum ranges from bronchoscopy and biologic therapies to lung resection. medudoc prepares every patient with a digital medical history and consent sheet – for operations together with anaesthesia, including regional anaesthesia.
Two types of procedure
Interventions and operations on one platform
In pulmonology and thoracic surgery, outpatient interventions sit alongside major operations. medudoc maps both with the same steps – adapted to the procedure and anaesthesia.
Interventions and therapies
Bronchoscopy, pleural puncture or lung puncture often take place as outpatient procedures, under local anaesthesia or analgosedation. Biologic therapies also have their own consent sheets.
- Consent sheet adapts to technique, side and imaging
- Consent discussion on site or telemedical
- Separate consent sheets for biologics in asthma and COPD
Operations with anaesthesia
Before VATS, segmentectomy, lobectomy or mediastinoscopy, thoracic surgery and anaesthesia both inform the patient. medudoc combines both consent processes in one workflow.
- One questionnaire for surgery and anaesthesia
- Regional anaesthesia in the same consent sheet
- Premedication and handover in the same case
With anaesthesia
Thoracic surgery and anaesthesia in one workflow
Before lung surgery, surgery and anaesthesia need the same information. medudoc captures it once and combines both patient education processes in one document – including regional anaesthesia.
One questionnaire for both specialties
Patients enter pre-existing conditions, medication and findings once at home. They upload medical reports; the platform extracts the report data, and patients confirm.
Scores calculated, classification by the physician
In the HCP Dashboard, scores are calculated and notable responses are flagged. Physicians classify the risk, for example using ASA.
Can be combined with regional anaesthesia
The thoracic paravertebral block and the erector spinae plane block can be combined with general anaesthesia, as a single shot or with a pain catheter.
Premedication and handover
Physicians record the premedication directly in the case. medudoc creates the premedication record and transfers it to the hospital information system (HIS) via FHIR.
On site or telemedical
The consent discussion where it fits
Whether a telemedical consent discussion is sufficient is decided by the physician, depending on the procedure and risk profile. Both paths start with the same preparation at home.
Consent discussion by phone or video
For plannable interventions with low risk, when the physician considers a telemedical consent discussion sufficient.
- 1
Enter medical history, medication and findings at home
- 2
Review and approve the case in the HCP Dashboard
- 3
View the consent sheet at home
Consent discussion by phone or video

No additional trip to the hospital.

In the clinic, well prepared
For lung surgery, pre-existing conditions or when an examination is needed.

One document for everyone involved
The result is the consent sheet as a PDF/A with the consent trail and medical history attached – archived in an audit-proof manner and transferred to the HIS.
Benefits
Relief for pulmonology, thoracic surgery and patients
For pulmonology
- Separate consent sheets for interventions and biologic therapies
- Consent sheet adapts to technique, side and imaging
- Consent discussion on site or telemedical, as the physician decides
- Findings with source reference in the HCP Dashboard
For thoracic surgery and anaesthesia
- The same information, no second questionnaire
- Regional anaesthesia in the same consent sheet
- Scores calculated, notable responses flagged
- Premedication record to the HIS via FHIR
For patients
- Preparation at home, no app, no new password
- Information on medication and fasting up to the day of surgery
- Adjustable font size and contrast in the patient portal
- Patient education content in 23 languages
Consent sheets
Patient education content for pulmonology and thoracic surgery
medudoc’s medical editorial team creates consent sheets for pulmonological and thoracic surgical procedures and reviews them at least once a year. For pleural puncture and pleurodesis, patient education videos are also available.
Interventions and therapies
Diagnostics and treatment in pulmonology.
Lung resection
Minimally invasive or open.
Pleura, mediastinum and chest wall
Procedures on the pleura, in the mediastinum and on the chest wall.
Anaesthesia for the procedure
General anaesthesia, also with thoracic regional anaesthesia.

What physicians say about digital patient education
“medudoc is convincing: medical patient education and documentation become digital, visual and individually tailored to each patient.”
