Joint replacement and anaesthesia in one workflow
Hip, knee and shoulder replacements are plannable, high-volume procedures. medudoc connects orthopaedics and anaesthesia in one questionnaire, one personalised patient education video and one consent sheet. Patients prepare at home.
One questionnaire instead of two
Orthopaedics and anaesthesia ask the same questions – medudoc asks only once
Before a knee replacement, both specialties collect much of the same information. medudoc combines it in one questionnaire per procedure; specialty-specific questions complete it.
Orthopaedic questionnaire
- Pre-existing conditions
- Medications
- Allergies
- Symptoms and joint function
- Previous joint surgery
Anaesthesia questionnaire
- Pre-existing conditions
- Medications
- Allergies
- Previous anaesthesia, airway

Arthroplasty
One video and one consent sheet for joint, anaesthesia and blood conservation
For joint replacement, orthopaedics and anaesthesia both inform the patient, often also on measures to reduce allogeneic blood use. medudoc bundles this content without mixing responsibilities.
One video for procedure and anaesthesia
medudoc assembles the personalised patient education video from short sequences. For knee replacement, it shows the procedure and anaesthesia in one video; shared content appears only once.
Blood conservation in the same consent sheet
For hip, knee and shoulder replacements, there are consent sheets that also cover tranexamic acid and allogeneic blood transfusion – including for revision surgery. One document instead of an additional consent sheet.
Adapted to the prosthesis
The consent sheet for knee replacement adapts to side, prosthesis type and fixation. Physicians add annotations before signature.
Can be combined with regional anaesthesia
The anaesthesia consent sheet takes an additional regional anaesthesia into account, such as a femoral, sciatic or saphenous nerve block or a brachial plexus block.
Evidence
Better understanding before total hip arthroplasty
In a randomised controlled trial, the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Würzburg examined an additional patient education video before total hip arthroplasty. With the video, patients answered more knowledge questions about the procedure, alternatives and risks correctly. The authors developed the video together with medudoc.
- correct answers with video (without video 78.6%, p = 0.014)
- 86.5%
- patient education video, sent by link one to three days before admission
- 18 min

Procedures
From joint replacement to outpatient arthroscopy
Orthopaedics ranges from high-volume inpatient procedures to outpatient procedures on the foot and hand. medudoc prepares all patients in the same workflow.
Hip, knee and shoulder – including revision surgery
Inpatient procedures with anaesthesia, often with measures to reduce allogeneic blood use. There are separate consent sheets for primary and revision surgery.
- Total hip arthroplasty and revision
- Knee replacement, unicompartmental prosthesis and total knee revision
- Shoulder prosthesis, adapted to indication and prosthesis type
Arthroscopies as outpatient or inpatient procedures
The consent sheets adapt to the stay – for meniscus surgery, also to the technique and anaesthesia.
- Knee, shoulder and hip arthroscopy
- Meniscus surgery, from repair to meniscus replacement
- Anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, adapted to graft and fixation
Smaller procedures, often under regional anaesthesia
For hallux valgus, metatarsalgia and carpal tunnel syndrome, the consent sheet adapts to the technique and type of anaesthesia.
- Hallux valgus with the planned osteotomy technique
- Carpal tunnel syndrome, open or endoscopic
- Regional anaesthesia, plexus block or general anaesthesia
Benefits
Relief for orthopaedics, anaesthesia and patients
For orthopaedics
- Symptoms and previous surgery captured before the consultation begins
- Patients know the procedure, prosthesis and risks from the video
- Consent sheet matched to side, prosthesis type and fixation
- Complete consent trail – who saw and signed what, and when
For anaesthesia
- The same information, no second questionnaire
- Values such as BMI calculated, notable responses flagged
- General and regional anaesthesia in the same workflow
- Telemedical consent discussion where it fits medically
For patients
- One questionnaire instead of two
- Understand joint replacement and anaesthesia at home, at their own pace
- Information up to the day of surgery, for example on medication pauses and fasting
- Patient education content in 23 languages
Consent sheets
Patient education content for orthopaedics
medudoc’s medical editorial team creates consent sheets and patient education videos for orthopaedic procedures and reviews them at least once a year. Each consent sheet can be combined with the appropriate anaesthesia technique into one document.
Arthroplasty
Primary and revision surgery, also with tranexamic acid and allogeneic blood transfusion.
Arthroscopy and sports orthopaedics
Procedures on the knee, shoulder and hip.
Foot and hand
Procedures on the forefoot, hand and wrist.
Spine
Surgical and interventional procedures.
