Informed for birth – long before labour begins

Before birth, the patient needs patient education on pain relief, epidural and a possible caesarean section. medudoc accompanies her digitally early in pregnancy, in her language and on her smartphone. If desired, medudoc also provides the anaesthetist for the consent discussion.

Video player in the medudoc patient portal with a patient education video on birth, with chapters from monitoring to pain relief and epidural to caesarean section, subtitles and the option to mark a question for the consent discussion.

Starting point

Many births, little time for patient education

Before birth, the topics are pain relief, epidural, induction of labour and a possible caesarean section. Many hospitals report that they lack the time for detailed patient education of every pregnant woman.

  • Epidural
  • Birth
  • Caesarean section
  • High volume, scarce resources

Patient education is needed for a very large number of pregnant women, often on the same topics. Some hospitals therefore provide it in groups, even in lecture halls.

  • Many first languages

In many maternity units, a large proportion of pregnant women have a first language other than German. A discussion in German reaches them only in part.

  • In the delivery room, it is too late

During labour, a calm decision about an epidural or caesarean section is difficult. Patient education belongs in pregnancy, not in the delivery room.

  • No app

    The smartphone is already there

Expectant mothers usually use their smartphone every day anyway. A digital process reaches them there – no app, no new password.

Accompanied through pregnancy

From birth registration to the delivery room

Your hospital brings the pregnant woman into the digital process as early as possible. The medudoc patient portal accompanies her until the birth.

  1. 1. Invite early

Via QR code on the leaflet or a link on your website, ideally as early as the birth registration.

  2. 2. Digital medical history at home

The pregnant woman records pre-existing conditions, medication and allergies calmly, in her language.

  3. 3. One video for everything that may happen

The patient education video explains birth, monitoring, pain relief and epidural, caesarean section and what happens if things turn out differently – such as vacuum extraction or an emergency caesarean section.

  4. 4. Mark questions directly in the video

The pregnant woman marks anything unclear while watching the video. The questions appear in the consent discussion.

  5. 5. Watch again and again

The video remains available in the patient portal throughout pregnancy – also to watch together with her partner.

  6. 6. Consent discussion with anaesthesia

With your team or, if desired, with an anaesthetist from medudoc.

  7. 7. Consent electronically

The bilingual consent sheet is signed electronically and transferred to your HIS as a PDF/A.

The pregnant woman arrives for the birth informed, and her consent is documented. She can still refuse a measure during labour.

In her language

Understandable in 23 languages, on her own smartphone

Patient education only works if it is understood. medudoc provides patient education content in 23 languages – narrated, subtitled and deliberately in plain language.

  • 23 languages
  • No app
  • Plain language
  • Narrated and subtitled

The patient education video speaks the pregnant woman's language. Subtitles and a reading version are also available.

  • Bilingual consent sheet

German original on the left, translation on the right. Legally binding consent is given on the German original; the translation helps patients whose first language is not German to understand it.

  • In the browser, on any device

No app, no new password. The pregnant woman opens the link on her smartphone and continues where she left off.

  • Watch together

Her partner can watch the video with her. Questions arise at home, not only in the delivery room.

The consent discussion

With your team – or with anaesthesia from medudoc

Both paths start with the same preparation at home. The physician decides, depending on the risk profile, whether a telemedical consent discussion is sufficient.

  • Your anaesthesia team

    Your team informs, well prepared

The standard path. Your anaesthetists conduct the consent discussion, on site or by telemedicine.

    1. 1

Medical history and questions from the video in the HCP Dashboard

    2. 2

      Notable information flagged, metrics calculated

    3. Consent discussion on site or by phone or videoDiscussion

    4. 4

Classification by physicians and approval by your team

    5. 5

Electronic consent, in the browser or on a signature pad

The discussion starts with the open questions, not from scratch.

  • Optional · pilot

medudoc provides the anaesthetist for the discussion

When your hospital lacks capacity. An anaesthetist from medudoc conducts the consent discussion.

    1. 1

The same preparation at home, in the same patient portal

    2. 2

Medical history and questions reviewed by a physician

    3. Consent discussion with anaesthesia from medudocDiscussion

    4. 4

Classification by a physician and documentation in the case

    5. 5

Handover to your hospital before the birth begins

Your hospital receives the pregnant woman classified by a physician and informed.

One result for both paths

The consent sheet is available as a PDF/A with the consent trail and medical history in the appendix – archived audit-proof and transferred to the HIS before the birth begins.

Pilot project

If desired, an informed patient rather than just a process

For maternity units, medudoc optionally offers more than the platform. If desired, medudoc also provides the anaesthetist for the consent discussion – at a fixed price per patient. The offer starts as a pilot with the first hospitals.

  • The physician's discussion included

An anaesthetist from medudoc conducts the consent discussion and makes the medical classification.

  • Fully documented

Consent, consent trail and medical history are combined in one PDF/A and sent to your HIS.

  • Predictable per patient

A fixed price per patient instead of tied-up physician time in your clinic.

  • Optional

    Voluntary

Your hospital decides whether to use the offer. The digital process also works with your own team.
