Patient education you can also listen to
Before cataract surgery, patients often read less well than usual. medudoc explains the procedure in a narrated patient education video with subtitles, calmly at home. The consent sheet adapts to the side, lens type, technique and anaesthesia.
For people with poor eyesight
Listen, watch, read – whatever suits the patient
Many ophthalmology patients are older, and their eyesight is impaired by their condition. medudoc therefore offers patient education in several ways – no app, on any device.
Narrated patient education videos
Every patient education video has spoken text. Patients who struggle with small print listen to the explanation and see the procedure in images.
Subtitles and reading version
Subtitles can be switched on. The reading version presents the content of the video as text – deliberately in plain language.
Adjustable font size and contrast
In the patient portal, patients set font size and contrast themselves – the way they read best.
Together with family members
The video can be watched at home with children, grandchildren or other people patients trust. Patients mark questions for the consent discussion directly in the video.
In 23 languages
Patient education videos are narrated and subtitled, and the consent sheet is bilingual – German original on the left, translation on the right.
Many procedures, one process
From cataract to refractive surgery
Ophthalmology performs many operations, most of them planned and often on an outpatient basis. medudoc covers the typical procedures with dedicated consent sheets, many of them with a patient education video.
Cataract and lens surgery
The cataract sheet adapts to lens type and instrumentation – from ultrasound phacoemulsification to femtosecond laser.
- Monofocal, multifocal, EDoF and toric lenses
- Dedicated sheets for refractive lens exchange and capsulotomy
Glaucoma surgery and laser therapy
From laser therapy to surgery. In the MIGS sheet, implant and approach can be selected, as an addition to cataract surgery or as a stand-alone procedure.
- Selective laser trabeculoplasty and laser iridotomy
- MIGS and trabeculectomy
Recurring retinal treatments
Intravitreal injections (IVOM) are usually repeated. The sheet adapts to the indication and the treated side, for example in macular degeneration or diabetic macular oedema.
- IVOM and argon laser photocoagulation
- Vitrectomy and silicone oil removal
Refractive surgery
Laser and lens procedures for correcting refractive errors have dedicated sheets, matched to technique and indication.
- LASIK, PRK and lenticule extraction
- Phakic intraocular lenses
With anaesthesia
Procedure and anaesthesia in one document
Whether topical anaesthesia or brief general anaesthesia – anaesthesia is part of patient education. medudoc combines the ophthalmic surgery sheet with the sheet “Anaesthesia in ophthalmology”.
The planned anaesthesia technique
The sheet adapts to the technique, such as topical drop or gel anaesthesia, sub-Tenon, peribulbar or retrobulbar anaesthesia.
Sedation or brief general anaesthesia in addition
If sedation or brief general anaesthesia is also planned, it is included in the same document. Known glaucoma is also taken into account.
One questionnaire for both
Ophthalmology and anaesthesia see the same information from the digital medical history. Notable information is flagged; physicians make the classification.
One PDF/A at the end
Sheet, signatures, consent trail and medical history are combined in one document – archived audit-proof and transferred to the HIS.

Consent sheets
Patient education content for ophthalmology
The medudoc medical editorial team creates consent sheets and patient education videos for ophthalmology and reviews them at least once a year. Ophthalmic surgery sheets can be combined with the sheet “Anaesthesia in ophthalmology” into one document.
Cataract and lens
Lens surgery with ultrasound, laser or femtosecond laser.
Glaucoma
Laser therapy and pressure-lowering surgery.
Retina and vitreous
Injections, laser treatment and vitreous surgery.
Refractive surgery
Correction of refractive errors with laser or lens.
