Elective procedures, carefully explained and documented

For an aesthetic procedure, patients often decide without any medical necessity. That makes clear patient education, time to reflect and complete evidence all the more important. medudoc prepares patient education at home and documents every step.

Bilingual consent sheet for rhinoplasty with anaesthesia, German original on the left and translation on the right, with a section from the medical history, a physician's note on expectations and alternatives, two signatures and the appendix.

Patient education before the decision

Time to understand before anyone signs

Aesthetic procedures are planned and requested by patients themselves. It is all the more important that the course of the procedure, risks and alternatives are understood before the decision. medudoc moves preparation to where there is time for it.

  • Prepared at home
  • Explored in the discussion
  • Fully documented
  • Calmly at home

Patients watch the patient education video and read the consent sheet at home as often as they like – also together with people they trust.

  • Questions for the discussion

Patients mark sections and questions directly in the video. These appear in the consent discussion conducted by the physician.

  • Record expectations and alternatives

Before signature, physicians add what was discussed to the consent sheet as an annotation.

  • Consent trail

    Every step documented

The consent trail records who viewed which content when, which question was asked and when the sheet was signed.

Aesthetic surgery in Austria

What the ÄsthOpG requires – and how medudoc reflects it

In Austria, the Federal Act on the Performance of Aesthetic Treatments and Operations (ÄsthOpG) governs patient information and consent. medudoc makes the sequence traceable.

  1. 1. Inform orally and in writing

The ÄsthOpG requires comprehensive oral and written information in understandable language (§ 5(1)). The consent sheet is available in advance in the patient portal; the physician conducts the consent discussion.

  2. 2. Observe the waiting period before consent

For aesthetic operations, at least two weeks must pass between completed patient information and consent (§ 6(1)). The consent trail shows when patients viewed which content and when they signed.

  3. 3. Document consent in writing

Consent must be documented in writing (§ 6(2)). medudoc files the consent sheet, signatures, consent trail and medical history in one PDF/A.

  4. 4. Anaesthesia in the same document

For anaesthesia, there is the sheet “Anaesthesia for aesthetic surgery (ÄsthOpG Austria)” – in the same document as the procedure.

The physician decides when consent is given and when surgery takes place. medudoc documents the process completely.
